On August 4, on the 6th Sunday after Pentecost, on the day of remembrance of the myrrh-bearing Equal-to-the-Apostles Mary Magdalene, His Grace Bishop Matthew of Sourozh celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Dormition Cathedral in London.
His Grace was assisted by Secretary of the Sourozh Diocese Archpriest Dimitry Nedostupenko, Archpriest Maxim Nikolsky, Dean of the Diocesan District of South-East England Archpriest Vitaly Polischuk, Archpriest Michael Gogoleff, Dean of the Diocesan District of South-West England Archpriest Joseph Skinner, clergy of the UOC temporarily residing on the territory of the Sourozh Diocese, Protodeacon Vadim Santsevitch, Protodeacon Ioan Sîlnic, Deacon Viktor Nikiforov, Deacon Kosma Fratyanu and Deacon Alexander Kapustin.
The liturgical chants were performed by the choir of the Dormition Cathedral under the direction of Anna Kobrina.
Before the beginning of the Liturgy, a reliquary with great Christian relics (a particle of the Life-giving Cross of the Lord, the belt of the Most Holy Theotokos and particles of the holy relics of the chosen saints of God) was brought out from the altar to the center of the church.
At the small entrance, in view of his zealous pastoral service and in the connection with the 75th anniversary of his birth, according to the Order of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, His Grace Bishop Matthew of Sourozh awarded Archpriest Michael Gogoleff the right to wear a mitra.
This day marks the 21st anniversary of the repose of the founder of the Sourozh Diocese, therefore petitions were offered at the funeral litany for the ever-memorable Metropolitan Anthony (Bloom).
After the prayer before the ambo, Bishop Matthew and the concelebrating clergy served the funeral litiya, and the Right Reverend Vladyka blessed the koliva in memory of Metropolitan Anthony.
In conclusion, the Archpastor addressed those present with words of sermon and spiritual edification. Simultaneous translation into English was provided by Protodeacon Vadim Santsevitch.
