On June 28, 2023, commemorating the translation of the relics of St. Theophan, the Recluse of Vysha (2002), His Grace Bishop Matthew of Sourozh celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Dormition Cathedral in London.
His Grace was assisted by Archpriest Vitaly Polishchuk, Dean of the Diocesan District of South East England, Archpriest Dimitry Nedostupenko, Secretary of the Diocese of Sourozh, and Protodeacon Vadim Santsevitch.
The liturgical hymns were performed by the male choir of the Dormition Cathedral under the direction of Dmitry Tugarinov.
Following the prayer before the ambo, the Archpastor and concelebrating clergy performed prayerful glorification in front of the icon of St. Theophan with a particle of his holy relics.
In conclusion, Vladyka addressed the clergy and parishioners with words of sermon and spiritual edification, in particular, noting the role and spiritual feat of St. Theophan in the life of the Russian people. The Archpastor emphasized the special significance of the work and heritage of the Saint for the faithful children of the Russian Orthodox Church, who currently live in many countries of the world.
Vladyka Matthew warmly thanked the benefactors of the Dormition Cathedral present at the service, through whose care and efforts the large church icon and a smaller icon with a particle of the holy relics of St. Theophan were painted and delivered from Russia.
