On Tuesday, March 29, by agreement between His Grace Bishop Matthew of Sourozh, temporary Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA and Canada, and Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe (Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia), the miraculous Kursk-Root Icon of the Holy Mother of God ("The Sign") was brought to the Oxford church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker of the Diocese of Sourozh.
Before the beginning of the evening service, the holy icon was placed in the center of the church for veneration.
Then Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe, who is accompanying the miraculous icon, celebrated a moleben with akathist singing in front of the miraculous icon.
The hierarch was co-served by archpriest Stephen Platt, Dean of the Diocesan District of Central England, deacon Alexei Kostyanovsky, and clergy of the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God in London (ROCOR) who accompanied Bishop Irenei.
At the end of the service, Vladyka Irenaeus addressed those gathered in the church with words of a sermon, in which he expressed his joy that in these difficult times the miraculous icon serves as a point of unity, and that on this day he especially prayed that this visit would be a consolation and support for the Oxford parish, which was recently attacked and vandalized, the website of the Diocese of Great Britain and Western Europe reports. His Grace Bishop Irenei expressed gratitude to Bishop Matthew of Sourozh for the opportunity to visit and pray in the parish of Oxford, which is close to him, and warmly greeted the clergy and parishioners of the church.
