« Representatives of the Diocese of Sourozh took part in the II International Congress of Choirmasters and Singers of the Russian Orthodox Church »

On October 24 - 26, 2019, the "II International Congress of Choirmasters and Singers of the Russian Orthodox Church" was held at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow.
With the blessing of His Grace Bishop Matthew of Sourozh, delegates from the Diocese of Sourozh Tamara Butkovskaya, Choimaster of the Stavropegial St.Peter and St.Paul Patriarchal metochion in Dublin, Republic of Ireland, and Oksana Bryl, Choir singer of the Dormition Cathedral in London, UK, participated in the congress.
The opening ceremony of the Congress was headed by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.
The main aim of the Congress was to discuss issues of preserving and developing the centuries-old traditions of Russian church singing, discussing pressing issues and problems of singing in churches and monasteries, finding solutions for such problems, and exchanging experiences.
The Congress was attended by 547 delegates from 142 dioceses and 15 countries: Choirmasters from cathedrals and parish churches, stauropegial monasteries, teachers of church and secular educational institutions. The Congress was dedicated to the memory of Pavel Chesnokov (1877-1944), Choirmaster, composer and author of sacred music. This year marks the 75th anniversary of this outstanding composer's passing away.
Choirmasters, choir leaders, teachers and composers representing the Russian Orthodox Church and the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia made presentations and shared their ideas and experiences at the Congress.
The Congress ended with a solemn hierarchical service at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. The Divine Liturgy was headed by Archbishop Ambrose of Vereya, Abbot of the Sretensky stavropegic monastery.
A resolution has been adopted on the results of the Congress.
