« Diocesan Assembly meeting took place at the Cathedral in London »

The annual general meeting of the Assembly of the Diocese of Sourozh took place at the London Cathedral on Saturday 12th January. It was preceded by the Divine Liturgy at which His Eminence Archbishop Elisey of Sourozh presided and His Eminence Archbishop Anatoly of Kerch and many of the diocesan clergy concelebrated.

The main item on the agenda of the meeting was the report of the Chairman, Archbishop Elisey, about the significant events in the life of the diocese during the preceding year. Chief among these had been the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the diocese, which had been marked by a spirit of unity and mutual understanding. The diocese founded by Metropolitan Anthony 50 years ago had maintained its integrity and unity despite the difficulties it had encountered after his death and was consolidating and growing steadily. The number of communities had increased from 40 to 44. There were 21 priests and 7 deacons. The main anniversary celebrations in London in October had been successfully  held in conjunction with the historic first meeting of the bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church serving outside the canonical territory of the Church.

The clergy and lay representatives of the parished also discussed a number of questions regarding parish activities and pastoral care.

The next meeting of the Assembly will be at the annual Diocesan Conference, which will take place from May 31st to June 2nd.
