The Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God arrives to London


On Saturday 18th of March,at 5pm the solemn meeting of the miracle-working Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God will take place at the Cathedral of the Dormition in London. A Moleben with the Akathist to the Mother of God will be celebrated in front of the Icon. The Holy Image will be at the Cathedral till the end of the Vigil service and will leave at about 9 pm.

Children’s school choir to perform in the concert Theophania 2017

The annual concert Theophania celebrating Christmas and Theophany will take place this year next Sunday 29th January at 17.00  at 
St Yeghiche Armenian Church

Underground South Kensington, Gloucester Rd. 
This year the organisers decided to invite children’s choirs from various churches.
Our children's school choir will be participating. 
Entrance is free. There will be a retiring collection at the door with all the donations going to the Aleppo community.

New Year Service in the Cathedral

On Saturday, Dec 31st at 6 p.m. there will be a Vigil service for the New 2017 Year in the Cathedral of the Dormition of the Mother of God. Confession will be heard from 5.30 p.m. until the end of the service.

A Liturgy for the New Year will be celebrated in our Cathedral on Sunday, Jan 1st, 2017 at 9.30 a.m. Confession will be heard from 9.00 a.m. until the end of the service.

Please, note - there is no midnight service this year!

New Issue of diocesan journal 'Sourozh' is published

Issue 111 of the diocesan journal 'Sourozh' is dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the Russian Orthodox presence in the British Isles. It includes an extensive interview with Archbishop Elisey, two talks about Metropolitan Anthony from the 2014 Diocesan Conference (which was devoted to the 100th anniversary of his birth),  a number of articles by or about Bishop Vasily Rodzianko and Father George Florovsky, some pieces about early British saints and an obituary for Fr Ephrem Lash, whose penetrating book reviews were a notable feature of the journal. It can be purchased at the Sourozh Publications online shop.

On October 18, 2016, His Holiness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, met with Archbishop Justin Welby of Canterbury at the Lambeth Palace in London.

Participating in the meeting from the Russian Orthodox Church were also Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations, Archbishop Elisey of Sourozh, and Archimandrite Philaret (Bulekov), DECR vice-chairman. From the side of the Church of England, there was also Bishop Richard Chartres of London.

Opening of the historic building of the Russian Orthodox Church in London (1813 -1920)

On Saturday 15th October, in connection with the celebration of 300 years of the Russian Orthodox presence in the British Isles, the building which from 1813 to 1920 was the embassy church of the Dormition of the Mother of God will be open to the public.  There will be guided tours and an exhibition about the history of the church and also about the Grand Duchess Elisabeth Feodorovna.
