« Bishop Matthew of Sourozh visited churches of the Orthodox Church in America in Washington State »

On December 11, 2024, Bishop Matthew of Sourozh, Interim Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA and Canada, who is on an archpastoral visit to the West Coast of America, at the invitation of Archbishop Benjamin of San Francisco and Western America, visited the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Tacoma and Holy Trinity Chapel of the Orthodox Church in America in the Seattle suburb of Wilkinson, Washington.

The rector of the parish, Archpriest Joseph Ramos, told the bishop about the history of the parish, connected with the work of St. Tikhon and the Venerable Archimandrite Sebastian (Dabovich), an Orthodox missionary who, with the blessing of St. Tikhon, headed the first Serbian mission. Holy Trinity Church, founded through the labors of St. Sebastian and consecrated by St. Tikhon was to become the main Orthodox church of the capital of Washington State, however, due to the approval of Olympia as the capital, the town of Wilkinson lost its former significance and currently Trinity Church is a chapel, in which divine services are held several times a month. Bishop Matthew performed a short moleben and expressed gratitude to Fr. Joseph for the opportunity to visit this holy temple. In memory of the visit to the parish and in honor of the 100th anniversary of the death of St. Tikhon, which will be celebrated in 2025, Bishop Matthew presented Fr. Joseph with a memorable gift.
