« An online talk about Halloween was held in the Sourozh Diocese  »

On October 31, 2024, with the blessing of His Grace Bishop Matthew of Sourozh, the next annual meeting of the clergy of the Dormition Cathedral in London was held online on the theme of Halloween, which is widely celebrated in the Western world.

Archpriest Maxim Nikolsky and Priest Nikita Kozlov took part in the talk. The audience consisted of more than 30 Orthodox families from various parishes of the Sourozh Diocese.

Father Nikita gave a historical excursion, spoke about the original spiritual roots, traced the transformation of pagan worship of the forces of nature and the spirits of ancestors into the Christian veneration of "All Saints' Eve" and its subsequent degeneration into a new pagan image that has lost its Christian meaning in modern times.
Father Maxim spoke about the life of the Apostle and Evangelist Luke (I), who is commemorated by the Orthodox Church on this day, giving examples of his spiritual feat.
In conclusion, the clergy answered questions of interest to the talk participants.
