On the afternoon of April 14, 2023, on Great Friday - the day dedicated to the remembrance of the Holy Saving Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ, His Grace Bishop Matthew of Sourozh celebrated Vespers with the procession of the Shroud of the Savior in the Dormition Cathedral in London.
His Grace was assisted by Archpriest Maxim Nikolsky, Dean of the Diocesan District of South East England Archpriest Vitaly Polishchuk, Secretary of the Diocese of Sourozh Archpriest Dimitry Nedostupenko, Priest Vasily Gandzyuk, and Protodeacon Vadim Santsevitch.
Liturgical hymns were performed by the choir of the cathedral under the direction of Dmitry Tugarinov.
At the end of Vespers, while singing the troparion “Noble Joseph, from the tree took down Thy Most Pure Body”, the Holy Shroud depicting the burial of Christ was transferred from the altar to the middle of the church.
At the end of Vespers, the Right Reverend Archpastor delivered a sermon.
Then Little Compline was celebrated, at which Vladyka Matthew and the concelebrating clergy read the canon "On the Crucifixion of the Lord and on the Lamentation of the Most Holy Mother of God."
The shroud will remain in the middle of the church until Bright Paschal Matins, in remembrance of the three-day stay of the Savior in the tomb.
