« His Grace Bishop Matthew of Sourozh visited the Novospassky Stavropegial Monastery in Moscow »

On February 6, 2022, while on a business trip to Russia, His Grace Bishop Matthew of Sourozh, interim Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA and Canada, visited the Novospassky Stavropegial Monastery in Moscow.
On the feast day of the Synaxis of New Martyrs and Confessors of the Russian Church, His Grace Vladyka Matthew prayed and took communion of the Holy Mysteries of Christ during the Divine Liturgy at the altar of the Church of St. Romanos the Melodist.
At the end of the Liturgy, His Grace prayed for the repose of the Romanov boyars and Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich Romanov, whose tombs are located in the church of St.  Romanos the Melodist, visited and venerated the holy shrines of the monastery.  Vladyka offered prayers for the departed on the territory of the monastery's "Italian courtyard", where in the 1920s, after the closure of the monastery by the Soviet authorities and the establishment on its place of an NKVD concentration camp, mass executions were carried out.
