« Cleric of the Diocese of Sourozh took part in the memorial ceremony "Memory Road" »

On January 15, a memorial ceremony was held at the Stonefall Cemetery in Harrogate (Yorkshire, UK) involving taking land from the graves of Soviet soldiers who died during World War II.  The event was organized by the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia as part of a "Memory Road" joint project.
The event was attended by A.V. Kelin, Ambassador of Russia to the United Kingdom, M.V. Ivanov, military attaché of Russia to the United Kingdom, embassy staff, representatives of organizations of Russian compatriots, mayor of Harrogate S. Martin, management of the Stonefall cemetery and of the Commonwealth Military Commission responsible for military graves located in the UK, British and Russian media.
With the blessing of His Grace Bishop Matthew of Sourozh, Priest Anatoly Vikhrov, Rector of the parishes of the Meeting of the Lord in the city of Bradford and of Blessed Xenia of St.Petersburg in the city of Leeds, announced the address of Vladyka Matthew to the participants in the ceremony and served a lithia for those who died during the Second World War.
After British soldiers laid wreaths to the Remembrance Stone for those who died at war, ceremony participants proceeded to the graves of Soviet soldiers.  There are three of them buried at the cemetery: P. Kapalil, I. Ustinov and S. Kolyshev.  A handful of earth was taken from each grave.  They were put in special capsules, which will be sent to Russia.  Upon arrival, they will be greeted with military honors.
On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War, the land from the graves of Soviet soldiers will be put into shells, which will be placed on an alley that will lead to the main church of the Armed Forces which is planned to be opened in Moscow region on May 9, 2020.
