On December 4, 2019, on the feast of the Entry to the Temple of the Most Holy Mother of God and Virgin Mary, the first meeting of the Synod of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Western Europe, chaired by Metropolitan Anthony of Korsun and Western Europe, Patriarchal Exarch of Western Europe, took place in the building of the Korsun Diocesan Administration in Paris.
The Synod session was attended by all hierarchs carrying out their archpastoral ministry in the countries of Western Europe, which are part of the pastoral responsibility of the Exarchate: Archbishop Simon of Brussels and Belgium, Archbishop Elisey of Hague and Netherlands, Archbishop Nestor of Madrid and Lisbon, and Bishop Mathew of Sourozh, temporary Administrator of the Patriarchal parishes in the USA and Canada. Bishop Amvrosy of Bogorodsk, Vicar of the Exarch, was also invited to participate in the meeting.
During the meeting, the Bishops discussed a wide range of issues related to the organization and activities of the West European Exarchate.
The journals of the Synod of the Exarchate will be sent for approval to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and to the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church.
The meeting of the Synod was preceded by a festive Divine Liturgy, which was celebrated collectively by all members of the Synod of the Western European Exarchate at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Paris.
