On December 25, 2019, a joint meeting of the Holy Synod and the Supreme Church Council of the Russian Orthodox Church, in which Bishop Matthew of Sourozh, temporarily Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA and Canada, took part, began under the chairmanship of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia in the Red Hall of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow.
The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church addressed the participants of the meeting with an opening address, in which, in particular, he noted that this meeting is a special event in the history of the functioning of church governing bodies.
The meeting was attended by permanent and temporary members of the Holy Synod, invited to participate in the winter session (September-February), and members of the Supreme Church Council.
Tomorrow, December 26, the work of the Holy Synod will continue at the Patriarchal and Synodal residence at St.Daniil Monastery of Moscow.
