On October 15, 2018 at the meeting of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, held in Minsk and chaired by His Holiness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, His Grace Bishop Matthew of Sourozh was appointed as a temporary administration of the Patriarchal parishes in the United States of America.

HEARD:
Announcement of His Holiness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, about appointments of bishops abroad.
RESOLVED:
1. To free Archbishop Anthony of Vienna and Budapest from temporary administration of the parishes of the Moscow Patriarchate in Italy.
2. To appoint Bishop Ioann of Naro-Fominsk administrator of the parishes of the Moscow Patriarchate in Italy, with title “Bogorodsky", freeing him from the administration of the Patriarchal parishes in the United States, with expression of gratitude for his activities.
3. The interim administration of the Patriarchal parishes in the USA is entrusted to Bishop Matthew of Sourozh.
