« Archbishop Elisey met with Metropolitan Ignatios of the Antiochian Orthodox Church »
On Thursday, May 29th, the feast of the Ascension of the Lord, Archbishop Elisey met with His Eminence, Metropolitan Ignatios of the Archdiocese of France, Western and Southern Europe, who is on a pastoral visit to the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of the British Isles and Ireland.
Their Eminences discussed the situation of the communities of their respective Churches in Britain and Western Europe as well as current issues in inter-Orthodox relations. Recalling his previous service as representative of the Russian Orthodox Church to the Patriarchate of Antioch, Archbishop Elisey expressed his concern about the severe difficulties currently being experienced by the Christians of Syria.
The meeting, which took place in a cordial atmosphere, was attended by Archpriest Samir Gholam, Dean of the Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral of St George, and Archpriest Joseph Skinner, cleric of the London Dormition Cathedral, both of whom are members of the the Secretariat of the Episcopal Assembly for Great Britain and Ireland.
