« Archbishop Elisey consecrated a new church in Oxford »
On Saturday 9th October, Archbishop Elisey of Sourozh consecrated a new Church in honour of St Nicholas the Wonderworker in Oxford. 20 priests including the clergy of the Diocese of Sourozh, representatives of the Local Orthodox Churches and Russian Orthodox Church Abroad took part in the service. Lord Mayor of Oxford Mr John Goddard and his spouse, representatives of Anglican and Roman-Catholic Churches attended the Consecration.
After the Consecration of the church, Archbishop Elisey together with the assembled clergy celebrated the first Divine Liturgy. After the service, Vladyka made a gift of icons for the altar of the new church and awarded Priest Stephen Platt, Rector of the Parish of St Nicholas in Oxford, the Hierarchal Certificate of Merit.
The Diocese of San Francisco and Western America of the ROCA made a gift of an icon with a part of relics of St John the Wonderworker of Shanghai and San Francisco. Representatives of the Moscow St Tikhon's Orthodox University passed an icon of St Nicholas to the Oxford church.
