« An ancient icon was handed over to the Church of the Great Martyr George the Victorious in Newcastle »

On May 26, 2024, with the blessing of His Grace Bishop Matthew of Sourozh, Secretary of the Diocese of Sourozh, Dean of the Diocesan District of Northern England, Archpriest Dimitry Nedostupenko, celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Church of the Great Martyr George the Victorious in Newcastle.

During the Liturgy, His Reverence was assisted by Rector of the church, Priest Viktor Akhryapin. 

The liturgical hymns were performed by the parish choir under the direction of Olga Anoshko.

After the dismissal of the Liturgy, Father Dimitry addressed the parishioners with words of Easter greeting and a sermon on the topic of the Gospel reading. 

The Secretary of the diocese presented the ancient image of the Great Martyr George the Victorious as a gift to the church and expressed the hope that the icon would become a revered shrine for parishioners of the Orthodox community of Newcastle.
