On June 19, 2023, on the 109th anniversary of the birth of the ever-memorable Metropolitan Anthony (Bloom), the first Bishop of the Diocese of Sourozh, His Grace Bishop Matthew of Sourozh served a panikhida at the Dormition Cathedral in London.
His Grace was assisted by the clergy of the church, Archpriest Maxim Nikolsky, and the Secretary of the Diocese of Sourozh, Archpriest Dimitry Nedostupenko.
Memorial hymns were performed by a trio of choristers of the Dormition Cathedral under the direction of Anna Kobrina.
The panikhida was attended by admirers of Vladyka Anthony and staff of the Dormition Cathedral.
At the end of the panikhida, Vladyka Matthew delivered a sermon, emphasizing the special contribution of Metropolitan Anthony to the preaching of the Gospel of Christ in the latest period of the history of the Russian Orthodox Church. Vladyka also noted that this year, on 4th August, we will mark the 20th anniversary of the blessed death of Vladyka Anthony, and the next year will be marked by a round date - the 110th anniversary of his birth. The Archpastor stressed that the clergy and faithful of the Diocese of Sourozh continue to keep the memory and offer their prayers for Metropolitan Anthony not only on special memorable dates, but also at all times, during the celebration of divine services in the parishes of the Russian Orthodox Church in the British Isles.
