« Meeting of the Synod of the Western European Exarchate »


Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the current restrictions on movement between the countries under the pastoral responsibility of the Exarchate, the meeting was held remotely.
The meeting was attended by the ruling bishops serving in Western Europe: Archbishop Simon of Brussels and Belgium, Archbishop Elisey of The Hague and Netherlands, Archbishop Nestor of Madrid and Lisbon, and Bishop Matthew of Sourozh (Secretary of the Synod).
During the meeting, reports were presented by Metropolitan Anthony of Korsun and Western Europe on church life in the context of the spread of coronavirus infection, on the interaction of the Exarchate with the dioceses of Local Orthodox Churches in Europe, with the Western European Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia and the Archdiocese of the Western European parishes of Russian traditions.
The members of the Synod reported on the state of affairs in the dioceses entrusted to their archpastoral administration and discussed a number of personnel issues.
In accordance with the Internal Regulations on the Patriarchal Exarchate of Western Europe, the journals of the meeting will be sent for approval to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and the Holy Synod.
