On November 15, 2020, on the 23rd Sunday after Pentecost, the day of commemoration of the Holy Martyr Winifred of Treffynnon (+630), His Grace Bishop Matthew of Sourozh celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Dormition Cathedral in London.On the fifth anniversary of the episcopal consecration, Vladyka Matthew was assisted by the Secretary of the Sourozh Diocese, Priest Dimitry Nedostupenko, and Protodeacon Vadim Santsevitch.
During the Hours preceding the Liturgy, the Archpastor awarded Dionysius Nedostupenko the right to wear the orarion.
At the augmented litany, petitions were raised to get rid of the spread of the harmful epidemic - coronavirus infection. Then His Grace Vladyka offered up a prayer, which is read during the spread of a harmful epidemic.
At the end of the Liturgy, Vladyka Matthew delivered a sermon, after which Father Dimitri addressed jubilant Vladyka with congratulations on behalf of the clergy and laity of the Sourozh diocese as well as of the Patriarchal parishes in the USA and Canada. In his speech, the diocesan Secretary emphasized that over the past five years of archpastoral ministry, Vladyka carried out his apostolic ministry not only in Russia, but also abroad, in Western Europe - in the Patriarchal parishes in Italy and the British Isles. His Holiness Patriarch Kirill additionally entrusted him a special mission to manage the Patriarchal parishes in the USA and Canada.
On behalf of the clergy and parishioners of the Dormition Cathedral in London, Vladyka Matthew was presented with a commemorative cross and panagia and a bouquet of white roses as a sign of gratitude and love.
Vladyka has also received an artistically decorated basket of flowers and a congratulatory address from the clergy and laity of the Patriarchal Parishes in the United States.
