« The Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the shrine of St Frideswide, Oxford »
On Thursday 24th October, the Feast of the Holy Elders of the Optina Hermitage, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the shrine of St Frideswide, patron saint of the city and university of Oxford, within Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford.
The service was taken by Archpriest Stephen Platt, rector of St Nicholas Church in Oxford, assisted by Deacon Alexey Kostyanovsky. The responses were sung by members of St Nicholas parish choir.
At the conclusion of the Liturgy, Fr Stephen welcomed new students who had come to pray, and thanked the authorities at Christ Church for their warm hospitality and for allowing the possibility to hold Orthodox services regularly at the shrine. All then were given the opportunity to venerate the reconstructed shrine, which stands over the place where St Frideswide’s relics are believed to lie.
