On Wedsday 14th May, Archbishop Elisey of Sourozh was the guest preacher at the annual View Day service at the Church of St Bartholemew the Great in the City of London. He was welcomed to the church by its Rector, the Reverend Dr Martin Dudley.
Saint Bartholomew the Great is one of London’s oldest churches. It was founded in 1123 as an Augustinian Priory and has been in continuous use as a place of worship since at least 1143. View Day is an annual event held at St Bartholomew’s that welcomes local dignitaries from City Livery Companies, Common Councilmen and friends of the hospital. The day is designed to acknowledge achievement, reflect on the past and look to the future of the Hospital. First held in 1551 and never cancelled, despite two world wars, it has a distinguished history.
In his sermon, Vladyka reflected on the story of the paralytic whom Christ healed at the pool of Bethesda. Quoting Metropolitan Anthony of blessed memory, he emphasised the responsibility that comes with healing to live life in all its fulness, deeply attentive to those around us and their needs.
The service was followed by a reception in the Great Hall of Barts Hospital and a tour of the new cancer treatment facilities.
