« Archbishop Elisey of Sourozh took part in the celebrations of the Baptism of Russ in Kiev »
Archbishop Elisey of Sourozh visited Kiev, capital of Ukraine, from 22nd to 28th July and took part in the session of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church and the celebrations of the 1022nd anniversary of the Baptism of Russ.
On 26th July, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and His Beatitude Metropolitan Vladimir of Kiev and All Ukraine celebrated a Moleben. Afterwards, Patriarch Kirill presided a session of the Holy Synod at the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.
On 27th July, a festive Moleben was celebrated on the Hill of St Vladimir at the monument to St Vladimir Equal-to-the-Apostles. Church hierarchs, clergy, government officials, many faithful from Kiev and pilgrims took part in the service.
After the Moleben, Vladyka Elisey visited the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra and worshiped the relics of the God-pleasing ascetics of Kiev-Pechersk which lie in the Near and Far Caves.
On the same day, Vladyka took part in the Vigil celebrated by Patriarch Kirill on the Cathedral Square of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.
On 28th July, Archbishop Elisey took part in the Divine Liturgy celebrated by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill together with His Beatitude Metropolitan Vladimir, hierarchs and clergy. Pilgrims of the Diocese of Sourozh were present among the congregation.
