« Church events in honour of the Victory Day took place in London »
On 9 May, the day of the celebration of the 65th anniversary of the Great Victory in the World War II, a special thanksgiving Moleben blessed by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and a Memorial Service for the departed warriors and those who suffered for the Faith and Mortherland took place after the festive Divine Liturgy in the London Dormition Cathedral.
A thematic exhibition of children's paintings was prepared for the Victory Day, meanwhile an exposition of books about the war took place at the library of the Cathedral followed by a slide show of four hundred photographs of the war period. After that, the film «Pop» by V. Khotinenko telling about the life of Russian Orthodox priests and faithful on the occupational territories was shown at the library.
With the blessing of Archbishop Elisey of Sourozh, Archpriest Mikhail Dudko, sacristan of the London Dormition Cathedral, and the Churchwarden Tatiana Nosova attended to the memorial ceremony at the walls of the Imperial War Museum. Ambassadors of the 15 republics of the former Soviet Union took part in the ceremony. The representatives of the Church laid a wreath at the pedestal of the monument to the warriors fallen in the Great Patriotic War.
