« Episcopal service in the joint Orthodox parish in Durham »
On Sunday, 16 May, Archbishop Elisey of Sourozh together with the Rector of the parish Priest Andrew Louth, cleric of the Diocese of Sourozh and professor of of the University of Durham, Hieromonch Serafim (Aldea), cleric of the Romanian Church, and Protodeacon Dimitry Nedostupenko celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Parish of Saint Cuthbert and Saint Bede in Durham.
After the Gospel, Archbishop Elisey gave a sermon about eternal life as a great and unique gift of God. In his greeting after the service, Vladyka called on the community to maintain the special unity of the Parish of Saint Cuthbert and Saint Bede.
The parish is the only Orthodox community in Durham and therefore it has a special Pan-Orthodox status. It includes the members of the Diocese of Sourozh, the Diocese of Thyateira of the Greek Orthodox Church, as well as the faithful of the Romanian, Serbian and Bulgarian Orthodox Churches.
After the service, Archbishop Elisey venerated the shrines of Saint Cuthbert of Lindisfarne and the Venerable Bede.
