« New school year begins at the parochial children’s school of the Cathedral »
A new school year of the parochial children’s school of the London Cathedral of the Dormition of Mother of God and All Saints began on the 12th of September, which is the remembrance day of the Right-believing Prince, Saint Alexander Nevsky.
After Divine Liturgy a moleben for the new school year was celebrated by the Right Reverend Bishop Elisey. In his sermon the Bishop urged the pupils to study the Law of God with diligence. According to the Bishop, all the school subjects, including the secular ones, will, in the end, help pupils recognize the action of the all-good Divine Providence in relation to man and the world. Learning about the surrounding world and its laws strengthens our belief in the Creator and the knowledge gained should be used for good purposes”, - emphasized the bishop.
His Eminence blessed the teachers and pupils for the new school year.
The Divine service was followed by a meeting of the teaching staff, pupils and their parents in the conference hall of the Cathedral. Those present were welcomed by Bishop Elisey. He thanked head teacher Zhanna Klochkova for her hard work during the last six years and introduced her successor as head teacher, Elena Poplavskaya.
The Bishop emphasized that the activity of the parochial school pursues two goals, one of them being the study of the Divine Law and the other the preservation in the developing generation of Orthodox Russian spiritual culture and the Russian language.
Ms Elena Poplavskaya introduced the new teaching staff, who are different from last year.
In the current academic year the number of pupils is 56.
