On May 3, 2024, on Great Friday - the day dedicated to the remembrance of the Holy Saving Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ, His Grace Bishop Matthew of Sourozh celebrated Vespers with the procession with the Shroud of the Savior at the Dormition Cathedral in London.
His Grace was assisted by Archpriest Maxim Nikolsky, Dean of the Diocesan District of South-East England Archpriest Vitaly Polishchuk, Secretary of the Sourozh Diocese Archpriest Dimitry Nedostupenko, clergy of the UOC temporarily staying on the territory of the Sourozh Diocese, Protodeacon Vadim Santsevitch and Deacon Alexander Kapustin.
Liturgical chants were performed by the choir of the Dormition Cathedral under the direction of Dmitry Tugarinov.
At the end of Vespers, during the singing of the troparion “Blessed Joseph, from the tree taking down Your Most Pure Body,” the Holy Shroud with the image of the burial of Christ was transferred from the altar to the middle of the church.
The sermon by the Shroud was delivered by Archpriest Dimitry Nedostupenko.
Then Vladyka Matthew celebrated Small Compline, at which the canon “On the Crucifixion of the Lord and on the Weeping of the Most Holy Mother of God” was read.
