Visit of the Kursk-Root Icon, and Commemoration of Metropolitan Anthony's Consecration

To take place 23rd - 25th November 2007 With the icon present in the Cathedral on the 23rd and 24th

In November our Cathedral in London will receive the Kursk-Root icon of the Mother of God as it visits Great Britain. At the same weekend, the Diocese will also commemorate the 50th anniversary of the consecration to the episcopate of its founding hierarch, Metropolitan Anthony of Sourozh.

You are welcome to read a history of the Kursk-root icon. The programme of events during this weekend is as follows:

PROGRAMME

Friday, 23 November

  • 18:00 Meeting the icon of Mother of God “Kurskaya-Korennaya” (Kursk Root) in the London Cathedral. Moleben with Akathist.

Saturday, 24 November

  • 10:00 Divine Liturgy
  • 12:00 Panikhida in memory of Metropolitan Anthony of Sourozh
  • 13:00 Memorial meal for the members of the Diocesan Assembly
  • 14:00-16:00 Diocesan Assembly Conference
  • 18:00 Vigil concelebrated with Archbishop Mark of Berlin, Germany and Great Britain


  • around 20:00 The icon will depart the Cathedral

Sunday, 25 November

  • 10:00 Divine Liturgy lead by Archbishop Innokenty of Korsun
  • 13:00 Panikhida in memory of Metropolitan Anthony of Sourozh at Brompton cemetery
  • 14:00 Memorial meal in the hall of the London Cathedral
