The Holy Synod appoints a new ruling bishop for the Diocese of Sourozh

27th December 2007

Text of the press release (source (in Russian)):

At today’s meeting of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church the decision was taken to appoint Bishop Elisey (Ganaba) of Bogorodsk (webpage), the assistant bishop of the Korsun Diocese as the ruling bishop of the Diocese of Sourozh.

The Diocese of Sourozh had been temporarily placed under the care of Archbishop Innocent of Korsun following the crisis precipitated by the decision of Bishop Basil (Osborne) to leave the jurisdiction of the Russian Orthodox Church for the Patriarchate of Constantinople.

The Holy Synod noted the return of peaceful life to the Diocese of Sourozh and thanked the Right Reverend Archbishop Innocent for his labours in this field.
