Hierarchs from the British dioceses of the Russian Orthodox Church join together in prayer for the repose of Metropolitan Laurus
The pannikhida for the newly-departed Metropolitan Laurus took place in the ROCOR Church of the Holy Royal Martyrs in London on the ninth day of repose. It was conducted by the heads of the two Russian Orthodox dioceses in Britain, Archbishop Mark of Berlin and Great Britain (ROCOR) and Bishop Elisey of Sourozh assisted by the clergy from both dioceses. Before the pannikhida, Archbishop Mark shared his impressions of the funeral service for Metropolitan Laurus which he had recently attended in the USA. ‘The mood of everyone present was quietly joyful; everyone felt that they witnessing the departed Metropolitan’s journey to the Kingdom of God’, said Valdyka Mark. He also emphasised that Metropolitan Laurus had been deemed worthy of the very death for which Orthodox Christians pray: a painless, unashamed and peaceful end.
